Question2: How does your media product represent particular social groups?
My music magazine is mainly focused on a particular type of genre of music which is Hip Hop, I chose to do Hip Hop because it is the most popular genre of music across the world and among young people and certain subcultures. The audience that my magazine is targeted at is the younger generation/ teenagers male and female because the younger generation looks up to the Hip Hop celebrities as role models and want to be like them.
My magazine represents particular social groups by the models used; representation is shown through the age, gender and the way the models are dressed and shows a sense of reality. The models in the image were dressed in clothes that are recognizable and appealing to the younger generation/ teenagers. looking at each of the music magazine front covers below they are all fairly similar with similar representatives such as; their clothing and jewellery.
This is also shown by the models used; and the way they are portrayed, because in reality male Hip Hop artists are mainly masculine, black, and have form of jewellery on them and my model portrays this to an extent because he fits the typical Hip Hop criteria. Additionally, the representation of my product is the typical conventions because my model is stereotypically dressed up as an Hip Hop artist; they have the right clothing and accessories and a tattoo. The tattoo and ring isn't really normal, but it portrays what real artists have; uniqueness of the belongings and wouldn't be able to get these things from any original shop. They were dressed appropriate and were able to appeal to the audience of Hip Hop and other type’s subcultures.
