Resit: Textual analysis, magazine front cover
Denotation:
we can see a man with a black top on and a black hat which matches the background which is also black. We can also see different colours used for the masthead and the tag line but it does look profesional. Also, the fonts used are different because the importance of them and to stand out.
Connotations:
The reason for him wearing the black hat and top could be to portray the stereotypical look of an hip hop artist, whom normally have hats on with jewellery and so does he. This could mean that he's showing off for the magazine or just showing what he is really like, a music lover and n traditional hip hop artist.
Mise-en-scene:
props- there are no props in this magazine.
Costume- h's wearing a plain black top with a matching black hat with some sort of logo on it.
Non verbal communication- from the way he is positioned you can tell that he looks very relaxed with no pressur on him, but by looking at his face you can see that he looks very serious and concentrated.
Setting:
The setting is very plain, the background is just plain black wich could of been done purposly to put all the attention on the main image.
Lighting:
The lighting is all round, the lighting is more effective on the main image and you can see the artists face very clear.

Profiling Audience
The
BIZZ reader: Josh, 19, is a passionate music addict; his life revolves around
music, his work, friends, social life and life style. He’s up to date with the
most recent music and music trends and information, he goes to majority of gigs
he can attend which leave him with an empty pocket but he would say it’s all
apart of living and loving music. Josh also has his own band called U2; he is
the lead singer and plays an instrument. His dream is to be a lead singer for a
great band and out sell the number of albums sold by the Beatles; his idols are
John Lennon, Michael Jackson, Usher and Lionel Richie. Josh also dresses stereo-typically to the music he listens to, this is what makes Josh who he is. This
is his identity.
Evaluation question 7
Question
7: Looking back at the preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to a full product

Since doing my preliminary tasks I have improved my skills vastly which has helped me to complete my product. One of the main aspects that I have learnt is the typical conventions of a music magazine, by understanding this my knowledge of how my music magazine should look has improved and I now know what should and shouldn’t be on it and how to capture the attention of the audience. A perfect example of this would be the first magazine front cover that I done which was a while ago, in comparison with the most recent one I done which is better in many ways; the angle of the model and the context of the magazine itself.
Also,
the main tool that I personally think I have improved on drastically is
Photoshop. This is because before the process of creating any of my products, preliminary
and final pieces, I wasn’t confident with using Photoshop; I lacked a lot of
Photoshop skills. But over the process I have gained a lot of experience with
the software and I am confident enough to conduct a good product, for a example
my music magazine front cover, double page spread and my contents page. By improving
my skills on Photoshop the quality of my magazine is more professional
standard.
Similarly,
over the whole process I understood how my magazine should look by looking at
professional magazine conventions. I was able to use Photoshop successfully and
follow the right sizes of my double page spread, front cover and contents page.
For the front cover I had to use international A4 paper, which I also used for
my contents page.
Additionally,
I came to grasp with using a wonderful camera, Cannon E05 4005 Digital. With my
preliminary task I did not really know how to use the camera properly and was
taking pictures in the wrong locations and at the least convincing angles, but
now looking at my final pictures you can tell the difference that my final
pictures look more professional and appealing to the audience.
Finally,
I learnt how to attract and appeal to the right audience of my music magazine
which I think I did not do to the best of my potential. I also learnt how to
portray a specific type of genre of music through my models, camera angles,
props, clothing and the masthead and cover lines.
